City Chase Takes On Calgary

Posted by 4love2love on June 17, 2011

What this event is for is for – The Right to Play. To raise money to support sport programs for kids that dont have the money to be able to play sports.

On Saturday June 11th, City Chase invaded the city of Calgary for the third stop of its Canadian Series. The weather may have been challenging, but that wasn’t enough to stop Calgarians, as 600 teams battled the rain with nothing but enthusiasm.

Chasers had the chance to conquer their fears while holding all sorts of creepy-crawlers like snakes, tarantulas, and even scorpions. They even got to test their “Ninja” skills as they learned how to use throwing stars and jump over swords. Highlights from this year’s Calgary City Chase include the cannonball pool jump, balloon obstacle course, and the tower climb – a gruelling hike of over 800 stairs up the Calgary Tower. It was tough, but worth the view!

It was a close race this year with Shane Gryzko and Tyler Jeffery in first place in just over three hours. Following within minutes was team Goat Cookie Magic – Darcy Chalifoux and Todd Bowman – in second place three minutes after and The Sneetches – Becky and Colin Feasby (2010 Champions) – in third place a mere six seconds after Goat Cookie Magic. Shane and Tyler will be representing Calgary in The 2011 City Chase Canadian Championships in October.

The fundraising efforts of Calgarians was outstsanding, with $60,000 raised! The Sneetches, Colin and Becky, broke a record and raised $13,000 on their own!!! Their efforts alone will provide 260 children in Africa the opportunity to participate in sport and play program for one year.

Fifth place wasn’t good enough for team Fury. After crossing the finish line Nicki Rehn and John Markez decided to go back out and compete in the Columbia Enduro-Chase. They were a force to be reckoned with completing 21 out of 36 ChasePoints in a mere 3:50:54 and winning the Enduro-Chase.

Congratulations and thank you to all the extraordinary Chasers, volunteers, sponsors, and partners who fought the elements and made it a memorable event!

My ex works for the security company, ERS Security, that helped sponsor this event. Here is a picture of them. 🙂
